Resource Description:
In 1961 Pasadena saw the first of two adjoining motels in "fantasy" designs. The Erlee Construction Company of Studio City building this complex for the Hyatt Chalet Motels Inc. It is a two-story U-shaped structure in a "story Book Swiss" style, executed in stucco with colorful wooden trim. The office building is sheltered by an A-frame roof (painted orange on the outside and bright blue inside) and the A-frame design pattern is inlaid in a "V" pattern and painted gold and royal blue. A modified mansard roof (concealing a flat, gravel roof) covers most of the Colorado Boulevard structure. Decorative wooden brackets support the orange painted, outward sloping mansard. A decorative wooden railing encloses the stairway, the second floor walkway and the swimming pool.
