The Smith House is a good intact example of Pasadena Modernism as it was practiced during the Mid-twentieth century, and retains a high degree of integrity from the period of significance. In addition, the house was designed by Dennis Smith, who later became a partner in the firm Buff & Hensman (then renamed Buff, Smith & Hensman). As such, the Smith House meets the criteria for listing as a City of Pasadena Landmark under Criterion 3: It embodies the distinctive characteristics of a locally significant architectural style, architect and period.
