The house is an exceptional example of a late 19th/early 20th century house, Queen Anne subtype, as described in the Multiple Property Documentation Form, “Late 19th/Early 20th Century Development and Architecture in Pasadena, 1883 – 1904.” It was also the original home of Amos Throop, one of the city's founders, an early Mayor, and founder of Throop Polytechnic Institute, which later became the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).
