Denny's appears to be eligible as a local landmark as the best remaining example of Googie style architecture in the area. The term "Googie" originated from a distinctively designed coffee shop by that name which stood at the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights Boulevards in Los Angeles. The primary goal fo the style was to attract attention, particularly in roof design. Restaurants, like Denny's, succeeded in merging the ideas of Modern architecture with car culture. Denny's illustrates the notion of a building becoming its own three-dimensional billboard, attracting customers driving down the East Colorado Boulevard commercial strip. The prolific architecture firm of Armet and Davis designed the prototype for this Denny's in the mid-1950s. Armet and Davis worked for several restaurant chains including Norm's, Bob's Big Boy and Denny's. The firm designed a second prototype for Denny's in 1965 with a zigzag shingled roof. It appears that the interior of this Denny's has been recently remodeled, however, the exterior appears to be substantially intact.
